Set in early-1990s Los Angeles after the events of Snowfall, the series follows Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they attempt to build new lives after the devastation of the crack epidemic. Wanda believes West Coast rap can transform American culture, so she works to assemble a group of talented artists and music-industry figures. Leon, meanwhile, runs a free legal clinic and tries to leave the streets behind.

Their new paths collide as Wanda enters the music business and becomes involved with rising rapper Artillery, her cousins Lamar and James Kinsey, and former drug dealer Darryl “DG” Grant, who now owns a record label. As the rap industry grows, the boundary between music, street politics, law enforcement, and personal loyalty becomes increasingly dangerous.
