Set 400 years in the future, The Orville follows the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship in the Planetary Union—a fleet of Earth and interplanetary alliances. Captain Ed Mercer, still reeling from his divorce, is given command of the Orville alongside his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who becomes his First Officer. Together, they lead a diverse crew on missions of exploration, diplomacy, and survival across the galaxy. Blending science fiction adventure with sharp comedy and heartfelt drama, the series explores humanity’s place in the universe, tackling themes of love, loss, identity, and what it means to be human. Over three seasons, the crew faces hostile alien species, time travel paradoxes, ethical dilemmas, and personal struggles, culminating in the epic, darker-toned final season (New Horizons) that pushes the boundaries of the genre.
