In 1900s rural Australia, 17-year-old Sybylla Melvyn dreams of becoming a writer, but her family expects her to marry well. When her wealthy grandmother invites her to live at the grand Caddagat estate, Sybylla sees a chance to gather material for her novel and maybe escape her stifling life. There, she meets two very different men: Harry Beecham, a charming local society figure, and Frank Hawden, a handsome but rigid Englishman. As Sybylla navigates love, ambition, and the rigid social rules of her time, she must decide whether to follow her heart or her career.
