After a freak accident at their country estate leaves them unable to pay the bills, struggling couple Alison and Mike Cooper decide to open their home as a bed-and-breakfast. However, their new business venture comes with an unusual complication: the property is inhabited by a motley crew of ghosts from different historical periods who died on the grounds over the centuries. These spirits—including a caveman, a Viking, a Tudor noblewoman, a Georgian poet, a Victorian scoutmaster, a World War II officer, and more—are stuck in the house and can only interact with Alison after she survives a near-death experience that gives her the ability to see and communicate with them. Across five seasons, the series follows the Coopers as they navigate the challenges of running a B&B while helping their ghostly housemates resolve their unfinished business, explore their own relationships, and ultimately decide what kind of life they want to build together.
