Fourteen ordinary people are divided into two rival groups and placed in an abandoned town designed to resemble a post-apocalyptic world. They are cut off from modern comforts, including electricity, running water, heating, and regular food supplies.

The Eastside and Westside groups must survive for 28 days by scavenging, recycling, building shelters, and finding ways to produce food. Initially unaware that another group is nearby, the survivors eventually discover each other. Limited resources soon turn the social experiment into a tense struggle involving rivalry, suspicion, arguments, and uneasy alliances.
