In 2043, scavenger James Cole is sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to prevent the Kalavirus, a plague that has wiped out most of humanity. His investigation leads him to Dr. Cassandra “Cassie” Railly, a virologist whose recorded message connects the outbreak to the mysterious Army of the 12 Monkeys. Across four seasons, Cole and Cassie chase the plague’s origins through shifting timelines, confront the time-manipulating Witness, and discover that changing history may demand impossible sacrifices. The series expands Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film into a sprawling, emotionally driven time-travel saga with a complete, planned ending.wikipedia+2
