The Leftovers follows the people left behind after “the Sudden Departure,” an unexplained global event in which more than 140 million people vanish without explanation. Set three years after the event, the series centers on the fractured residents of Mapleton, New York—especially police chief Kevin Garvey and grieving mother Nora Durst—as they struggle with loss, faith, cults, and the need to find meaning in an inexplicable world. Created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta from Perrotta’s novel, the HBO drama ran for 28 episodes across three seasons.apple+2
