The Gallagher family lives on the South Side of Chicago, where single father Frank Gallagher raises his six children while battling alcoholism and unemployment. With Frank too drunk or hungover to care for them, eldest daughter Fiona becomes the de facto parent, managing the household and keeping her siblings together. The family includes Lip, the brilliant but self-destructive scholar; Ian, who struggles with his sexuality and mental health; Debbie, who matures from innocent child to teenage mother; Carl, the troublemaker who finds his path; Liam, the youngest; and various half-siblings who cycle through the home. Over 11 seasons, the Gallaghers navigate poverty, addiction, love, loss, and survival in one of television’s most raw and unflinching portrayals of a dysfunctional working-class family.
