In the near future, grieving parents Otone and Kensuke Komoto have spent two years unable to move on after their seven‑year‑old son, Kakeru, dies in a train accident. Desperate to heal, they rent a humanoid robot from a company that recreates deceased loved ones, bringing home a child‑model android who looks, sounds, and behaves like Kakeru. Otone embraces the robot as a way to restore family life, while Kensuke struggles with guilt and the ethics of replacing their son. As the artificial Kakeru begins forming his own connections with other humanoid children, the couple’s unspoken wounds and regrets surface, forcing them to confront loss, love, and what it means to be human in a world where grief can be simulated.
